What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy was pioneered by Richard Schwartz in the 1980s and has been developing and growing since, seeing exponential popularity in recent years as more people have found it to be a comprehensive and unique model for personal growth and healing.

It assumes that we contain many complex interacting aspects or parts, some of which can take on protective or conflicting roles in response to a range of experiences. It is often these well meaning but misaligned protective parts that can drive our emotional and behavioural challenges.

Unlike some models that try to change or bypass these protective parts, IFS works by connecting to and building bridges between those protective parts, that are often stuck in isolated loops, and a calm, centred self. As these parts are able to slow down and feel a sense of safety, they ease their need to take over, and it creates space for the collaborative exploration and implementation of conscious and integrated approaches, rather than fight, flight, or shutdown oriented solutions to your challenges.
